If you naturally gravitate toward neutrals, or feel unsure about how to bring colour into your wardrobe, this one’s for you.
Wearing colour doesn’t need to feel bold or intimidating. In fact, it can be easy, enjoyable, and totally “you” — when you know how. Here are five effortless ways to wear colour with confidence.
Start small
Dip your toe in by adding colour through your accessories. Think handbags, shoes, or statement jewellery in a flattering shade. It’s an easy way to bring colour into your outfit without feeling like you’re trying too hard. A little goes a long way!
Choose colour near your face
If you’re ready to take it a step further, try coloured tops, cardigans, or scarves that sit close to your face. The right colours worn here can instantly brighten your features and make your eyes sparkle — minimal effort required

Pair with neutrals
If colour feels too loud, tone it down by pairing it with one of your neutral basics so it feels a bit ‘safer’. And by neutral, I don’t just mean black (which, for many people, isn’t actually that flattering). Think greys, navy, soft whites, browns — anything that complements your palette. It creates a balanced, effortless look and is easy to pull off.
Stick to harmony
Colour only feels overwhelming when it isn’t the right one for you. Sticking to your colour palette — the shades that work with your skin tone, hair, and eye colours — will help everything feel more natural and polished.
For example, I wear mid-depth colours that suit my features and aren’t too bright or highly contrasting. That way, I still feel like me, not like I’m being drowned out by what I’m wearing.
Try prints
Still feeling unsure? A print that includes your best colours (even mixed with others) often feels much less intimidating than a solid block of colour. Look for patterns that include your favourite shades — maybe a go-to neutral or something that suits your personality. You’ll find it far easier to wear and feel more confident in your choice.
