If there’s one thing I see time and time again in the studio, it’s how powerful confidence can be. When someone discovers the colours that flatter them, or finally understands how to dress their shape, something shifts. They stand a little taller. They soften. They see themselves differently — and that is the best gift you can give someone.

Shop Smart: How to Make the Most of the Black Friday Sales (Without Regret Later)

It’s all too easy to get swept up in the buzz of “Black Friday deals” and “limited-time offers.” Before you know it, you’ve bought pieces you’ll rarely wear, spent more than planned and felt guilty afterwards. Sound familiar?

Whether it’s pre-loved finds or big sales, remember: it’s only ever a bargain if you actually wear it! As I always say – shop with intention and make informed decisions. Here’s how to make your sales shopping smarter, stress-free, and truly worthwhile.

Check Your Wardrobe First

Before you dive into the sales, take a moment to look through what you already own. What’s missing? What items do you keep wishing you had to pull an outfit together? You might rediscover forgotten pieces or spot pieces that can be restyled with a new accessory.

Knowing your wardrobe gaps are will save time, money, and regret later.

Use your swatches

If you’ve had a colour analysis, keep your swatches handy when browsing. They have been personalised to you and your features – not just pretty cards! They’re a working tool to help you shop smarter and feel confident with your choices. Buying what’s reduced can backfire if it doesn’t actually suit you.

Make a Wishlist

Black Friday deals come and go fast. Planning ahead by making a wishlist now reduces impulse buying. Bookmark or register items you genuinely need or have identified as wardrobe gaps, then check them when the discounts drop. Don’t forget pre-loved sites — sometimes hidden gems appear there too.

It’s always worth checking the pre-loved sites too.

Know What’s Really a Bargain

Not everything reduced will be a good buy — it only becomes one if you’ll wear it again and again.

Transitional pieces: garments you can wear over multiple seasons.
Classic cuts and shapes: last longer than fleeting trends.
Basics and essentials: repeat-wear items like vests, camisoles, long-sleeve tops, leggings, underwear.
Accessories: the easiest way to refresh an outfit — a necklace, scarf, or pair of boots.
Neutral colours: grey, navy, black, brown often make great investment pieces. Check your swatches to ensure they suit you.
Quality fabrics: cashmere, wool, or silk can be picked up on sale for long-term investment.

Think Quality Over Quantity

The best value isn’t always the lowest price. Something cheap and worn once can cost more per wear than a slightly pricier item you wear often. Focus on what you’ll actually reach for again and again.

For example, something bought for £19 and worn once costs £19 per wear, but something that’s £59 in and worn ten times is just £5.90 per wear and therefore much more valuable.

Shop Smarter Online

The principles are the same whether you’re browsing in a store or scrolling online. Use filters — size, colour, category — to save time. When shopping pre-loved, check condition (tags still on = bonus!) and don’t hesitate to ask for more details or photos.

Don’t forget shape and fit

Colour draws you in, but fit makes it flattering. Choose cuts that suit your body shape and proportions. Buying only because it’s reduced isn’t always a saving and may be something you later regret.

Avoid panic buying

Sales are designed to create urgency. Pause before you buy and ask:
>- Would I have bought this at full price?
>- Does it go with at least three items I already own?
>- Is it the right colour for me?
>- Does the style work for me?
>- What occasions am I likely to wear it to?
>- Does it flatter my body shape and fit my proportions?
>- Is it comfortable to wear?
>- What else can I wear it with?

If the answers are no, it’s often better left behind.

Support Small Businesses

It’s not all about the high street or big-name brands. Independent businesses often offer better quality, unique finds, and more personal service and experiences.

Experiences create stories, memories and new learnings. Services like personal styling and colour analysis are experiences that can help make every future purchase more successful. Don’t hesitate to get in touch about the colour and style experiences available.

Black Friday doesn’t have to mean chaos or guilt. With a little planning and a focus on what truly suits you, it’s a chance to build a cohesive, colourful, and confident wardrobe that works for you!

Studio opening hours

There will be no appointments available between 23 December 2024 and 6 January 2025.

All orders and any last-minute gifts can be collected from the studio up until Saturday 21 December. Please do get in touch as early as possible to ensure your items are in stock and available to avoid disappointment.

During this time, emails and messages will be monitored, but there will be a short delay in usual response times.

Appointments are available to book for 2025 now, so get in touch to secure your appointment date.

Christmas postage

Royal Mail have announced the last posting dates in the UK. Wednesday 18 December is the last posting date for second class post. First class post is Friday 20 December.

Special Delivery can be arranged for an additional cost to guarantee next day delivery, but all requests must be received in the studio by Saturday 21 December.

The last day for collection from the studio will be Saturday 21 December. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Gift vouchers and E-gift vouchers

Gift vouchers are available electronically, so there is no need to rely on the post!

Navigating Black Friday sales

The noise is beginning to get louder, have you noticed? Black Friday madness is well underway.

I know it can be really boring/frustrating/overwhelming to get loads of ads and emails about the best offer you’ve ever seen (only to find that 2 weeks later it wasn’t quite so good…)

Now, I love a bargain like most folk but it’s easy to get sucked into something which you later regret and it’s something I hear all the time (about how many clothes you have and many are unworn).

So, I wanted to provide some guidance and tips to try and help you navigate the sales and offers to try and help you avoid making mistakes you might later regret!

Starting from TODAY at 12pm, I’m delivering something a little different – here’s the details and how to get involved.

Monday

You’ll get an email from me with some practical advice about helping you to prepare. Fail to plan, plan to fail and all that.

Tuesday

Day 2, a further email from me with another bit of advice – one of my faves in fact.

Wednesday

Expect a bit of tough love here as I’ll share some well-meaning advice around purchases.

I’ll share how I put these tips into practice myself so you know it’s all possible.

It might be the ‘big day’ but hopefully you’ll feel better prepared to tackle the madness and make fewer mistakes. It isn’t about not buying things, but simply learning a few tips along the way about how to be more thoughtful with your purchases instead.

Please, only buy what you need and what you can afford.

Sometimes it’s worth reviewing what you’ve got. One piece of advice I give during my Capsule Wardrobe Workshop (coming back in 2023 by the way), is to operate a one-in, one-out policy. Especially if you’ve got a lot of clothes. Every time you buy something new, something else you already have needs to go. Let me clarify; by ‘go’ I mean leave your home. Charity shops, Ebay, Vinted or a friend in need.

Party eyes – Black Friday special offer

So, today is the day – officially Black Friday!

All week, retailers have been offering deals to encourage you to spend. There are some good deals to be had, especially with Christmas just around the corner.
