How does colour analysis work?

Wondering what a colour analysis involves? If you’ve been curious for a while or just discovered it – if it’s new to you, it’s natural to have questions.

When you experience a colour analysis, you’ll discover the colours that make you look and feel your best. It’s not about being restricted by rules or changing how you dress. Learn how to wear colours that suit you and feel more confident choosing clothes, makeup and accessories.

What happens?

All colour analysis consultations take place at my studio in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, unless you’re combining your session with a wardrobe audit.

We’ll start with a little chat so I can get to know a bit about you and your wardrobe.

I’ll explain the system I use – a tonal colour analysis, which uses basic colour theory. There’s six colouring types in the tonal colour analysis system – referred to as ‘dominants’. There are 24 possible sub-types in the tonal colour analysis system.

By assessing your physical features – your hair colour, eye colour and skin tone, I’ll be able to show you the effect of wearing colours that flatter your features best. You’ll gain a greater understanding of why certain colours compliment you more than others, and how to wear them.

The tools

Drapes used in colour analysis consultations

To demonstrate the impact of colour, I have 145 precision-dyed cotton ‘drapes’ in a range of colours, including neutrals.

Depending upon the colour analysis package you choose, you’ll learn the undertone, depth, and clarity of colours that suit you. (More on the colour analysis options here.) Your colouring type is based upon these three characteristics of colour.

Most people see changes against their features as each colour changes, and it’s useful to know what to look for when a colour isn’t as flattering.

Each session lasts up to 2 hours. During this time, I’ll show you ways of wearing your colours to inspire you further. If you’ve opted for the full analysis – the Complete Colour Analysis – you’ll receive a makeup application. These cosmetics are designed by Colour me Beautiful for your colour type and are available to purchase at the end of your session.

The result

My set of swatches

You’ll learn your colouring type (the undertone, depth, and clarity) and personalised advice on how to wear your colours. We’ll cover your clothes, makeup and your accessories.

You’ll take away your own personalised set of swatches which contain the same cotton material too. A basic colour swatch contains 30 swatches. A full set is 42 or 48 swatches.

Many clients tell me that experiencing a colour analysis consultation transforms their wardrobe and simplifies shopping and dressing each day.

Plus, you’ll get additional follow up notes from me to help you on your journey too.

What my clients say after their colour analysis experience

It never ceases to delight and amaze me how people say their colour analysis consultation has been “transformational“.

If it’s not something you’ve had done before, it all sounds rather dramatic! And yet, people who had a colour analysis decades ago, say the same. Which means, there must be something in this ‘getting your colours done’ lark!!

Once you’ve booked a Colour Analysis Consultation with me, you’ll receive a booking confirmation so you know what to expect and where to come for your appointment. You can also find out what you can expect here.

The session lasts up to 2 hours and is focussed on you, so you can learn all about colour (or Style if you prefer), and how to apply what you learn when you leave.

You’ll get a follow up email from me summarising what we went through during your session. I’m told it’s a great reminder, but it means I can provide more advice to support and inspire you on your journey.

I’m genuinely delighted to read your comments, emails and feedback! The reviews speak for themselves and you can read them here. Follow me on Facebook or Instagram for more.

Some clients ask for photos to be taken during their session, although most prefer me not to, which is why you won’t see lots of before and after photos. Whatever your choice, I fully respect it – it’s your consultation after all!

Thank you to all my clients for letting me introduce them to a colourful new world!
