Ever wondered why some colours make you glow while others seem to wash you out? Colour analysis helps you understand how colours interact with your natural features so you can wear them with confidence.
It’s been 14 years since I trained with Colour Me Beautiful and set up my business as a sole trader and consultant. Over that time, I’ve seen just how transformative discovering your perfect palette can be. For over four decades, Colour Me Beautiful has been a leader in colour consulting, helping thousands of women, and men, find shades that truly suit them.
From Seasons to Tonal
Almost 25 years ago, they moved beyond the traditional ‘four season’ method, introducing 12 seasonal palettes to better reflect the diversity within each season. This approach recognised that the original seasonal model doesn’t always reflect the global spectrum of skin tones and ethnicities. After all, ‘spring colouring’ doesn’t hold the same meaning across different cultures or climates.
In 2006, Colour Me Beautiful evolved the industry again by adopting the Munsell Tonal System. Consultants now assess colour using three key attributes: undertone, depth, and clarity. This makes the consultation process far more flexible and relevant to each person, acknowledging that your colouring can change over time.
How the Tonal System Works
Tonal analysis isn’t about telling you what colours to wear — it’s about showing you how to wear them. The colours themselves don’t change, but how they interact with you — their undertone, depth, and clarity — is what makes one shade look amazing and another less flattering. With this approach, Colour Me Beautiful identifies 24 unique colouring types, creating a truly tailored system.
During consultations, it’s incredible to see clients’ reactions when they discover their ideal shades — skin looks brighter, eyes stand out, and confidence instantly lifts. It’s these moments that make tonal analysis so powerful – and so fun!
Whether you’re exploring colour, refreshing your wardrobe, updating your accessories, or making your own clothes, a personalised colour consultation takes your style to the next level.
