A Simple Wardrobe Transformation for #MendItMay

If last week’s blog post (revisit it here) inspired you to take a fresh look at your wardrobe, here’s a little more inspiration.

To support the #MendItMay campaign, I decided to revisit a little project where I took an old dress and gave it a new lease of life by turning it into a top. It’s a great reminder that sometimes the best pieces are already in your wardrobe – they just may need a little tweak.

Why the transformation?

I hadn’t been reaching for this dress, but I wasn’t ready to part with it just yet either. I wanted to give it a new purpose and I knew I’d get more wear out of a top.

The process

Armed with scissors, pins, a tape measure and a ruler, I marked up where I’d want the dress shortening to – in my case around my hip bones.

Once I measured, I cut then pinned the edge in place to create a hem to sew on my sewing machine. I also reshaped it slightly so the top wasn’t as boxy and was a better fit for my shape.

The Result

It wasn’t a complicated project or very time-consuming either.

Generally, I’ve worn it dressed down with coloured jeans or jeggings and found myself reaching for it more often than I did with the dress. RESULT!

We don’t always need more clothes. Sometimes, we just need to make the most of what we have.

If you’re not sure what suits you or how to make your wardrobe work harder, that’s where my consultations come in. I’ll help you build a wardrobe that feels right for you and your lifestyle.
